If reading ‘paste this snippet into your <head>’ makes your shoulders tense, you are not alone and this is not going to be like that. What follows is exactly the fifteen minutes you need, in language borrowed from your grandmother’s cooking recipes rather than a developer forum.
What we are actually installing
A tiny piece of code — think of it as a small sticker — that goes on every page of your website and lets us count who visits. That’s it. It doesn’t change how your site looks, it doesn’t slow it down noticeably, and if you decide next week it’s not for you, you peel the sticker off and everything is exactly as before.
Plain word
‘Snippet' is a friendly word for ‘small piece of code'. You will not need to read it or understand it. You will paste it once.
The common no-code path (works for most websites)
- Log in to your website builder (WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace).
- Find the ‘settings’ menu — usually a gear icon, often bottom-left.
- Look for a section called ‘custom code’, ‘head code’, ‘tracking’, or ‘integrations’.
- Copy our snippet from the setup page and paste it into the ‘head' or ‘header' box.
- Save. Reload your homepage. You are done.
If you’re on WordPress
Two easy paths. If you have a plugin like WPCode, HeadFooterCode, or your theme has a ‘header scripts’ field in its options, paste there. If not, install any one of those free plugins for two minutes and use it. No file editing. No FTP. No panic.
If you’re on Shopify
Go to Online Store → Themes → Actions → Edit code. Find ‘theme.liquid’ in the layout folder. Somewhere near the top there is a line that reads </head>. Paste the snippet directly above that line. Save. It sounds scarier than it is — it takes twelve seconds and one right-click.
If you’re on Webflow, Wix or Squarespace
Each of these has an official ‘custom code’ area inside site settings. It’s specifically designed for exactly what you’re doing. Webflow: Project Settings → Custom Code → Head. Wix: Settings → Advanced → Custom Code. Squarespace: Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Header.
How to check it worked
| Step | Where to look |
|---|---|
| 1. Reload your homepage | In a normal browser tab |
| 2. Open the tracking check page | In the lead.box dashboard |
| 3. See a green ‘installed' badge | Within a few seconds |
| 4. If red — check step 5 below | |
| 5. Make sure you pasted into ‘head', not ‘body' or ‘footer' | Same settings page |
When something goes wrong (it usually doesn't)
If the check stays red, the snippet almost certainly landed in the wrong box or your website builder needs a manual ‘publish’ click to push the change live. Republish. Refresh. If still red after five minutes, our support answers within an hour — no jargon, no back-and-forth ticket labyrinth.
The honest truth about ‘tech anxiety’
The reason installs feel scary isn’t the difficulty — it’s the language. ‘Head’, ‘snippet’, ‘custom code’, ‘injection’, ‘tag manager’ are all just words for ‘paste this thing here’. Once you’ve done it once, all future installs of anything (analytics, chat widgets, testimonial tools) become fifteen-minute jobs. You’ll wonder why you waited.
